മനോഹരി - സസ്യലോകത്തൊരു പുതിയ താരം

സിറോപീജിയ ജീനസില്‍പെട്ട ഒരു വള്ളിച്ചെടിയാണ്‌ ഈ മനോഹരി . 

വയനാട്ടിലെ മേപ്പാടി മലനിരകളിലാണ്‌ ഇവളെ കണ്ടെത്തിയത്‌. 

സമുദ്രനിരപ്പില്‍നിന്നും 1500 മീറ്റര്‍ മുതല്‍ 1850 മീറ്റര്‍ വരെ ഉയരമുള്ള 

പ്രദേശമാണ്‌ ഈ ചെടിയുടെ വാസസ്ഥലം. 

ഇതിന്റെ പൂക്കള്‍ ചെടിയുടെ പേരിനെ അന്വര്‍ത്ഥമാക്കുംവിധം 

അത്രയേറെ മനോഹരമാണ്‌. കേരള ഫോറസ്‌റ്റ്‌ റിസര്‍ച്ച്‌ ഇന്‍സ്‌റ്റിറ്റിയൂട്ടിലെ 

പി. സുജനപാല്‍, എന്‍. ശശിധരന്‍, 

എം. എസ്‌. സ്വാമിനാഥന്‍ റിസര്‍ച്ച്‌ ഫൗണ്ടേഷനിലെ പി. എം. സലിം, 

എന്‍. അനില്‍കുമാര്‍ എന്നിവരുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തിലുള്ള ഗവേഷകരാണ്‌ 

ഈ ചെടിയുടെ കണ്ടെത്തല്‍ നടത്തിയത്‌. 

Manoharii - New arrival in the plant world

Botanists have discovered a new plant species in the Meppadi Hill Ranges of Wayanad. The plant is named Ceropegia manoharii. The plant qualifies for its species name manoharii, meaning ‘beautiful’, because its flowers are so beautiful. It is a herbaceous climbling plant. It has been found to grow at a height between 1500m and 1850m above the sea level.

A group of 44 mature plants were found in the hilly grasslands of Meppadi Forest Range. 

The team of discoverers was headed by P. Sujanapal and N. Sasidharan of the Kerala Forest Research Institute and P. M. Salim and N. Anilkumar of the M. S. Swaminathan Research Foundation, Wayanad.

The discovery has been published in the Journal of the Botanical Research Institute of Texas, USA.
